Booking Experience Editor
Design the look of your booking funnel from Online Store → Pages: pick a page template, choose a format for each step, and see exactly what a shopper gets once you publish.
The Booking page editor lets you choose a visual design for the funnel described in Customer Booking Flow — the same Service → Choose → Time → Details → Confirm → Done steps, just with control over which template each one uses. This is a separate surface from the Sales & Orders → Appointments workspace covered elsewhere in this section; it lives with your other storefront page designs.
Formats now reach the live funnel — the editor's own preview does not
The page template (Editorial Calm / Warm Concierge / Immersive Reserve) and every Step
Format row's format select are no longer cosmetic: once you Publish, the public booking funnel
at /book renders the format you picked for each step — see What each format looks like to a
customer below for every step's options. The one thing
that still doesn't reliably reflect your choice is the canvas preview inside this editor — it
only ever shows the Offerings step, whatever row you're actually editing, and it renders with
placeholder content rather than your real store's offerings. Don't judge a format change by this
editor's canvas; check the published page instead. See The editor's own preview is not a reliable
check for why, and Why don't customers see my
new layout? for the checklist.
Open the Booking page editor
Screen: Go to Online Store → Pages and select the Booking page card (its description
reads "Design the appointment-booking funnel customers step through" in the new admin skin, or
"The appointment-booking funnel customers step through — offerings, slot, details, payment" in the
classic skin). The direct route is /online-store/lpe/BOOKING.
The Booking page card is not listed in the Online Store → Theme → Page Layouts accordion — like Checkout, it's reachable only from Online Store → Pages.
The Booking page card requires the Appointments add-on
The Booking page card is hidden unless both are true: you hold the same Online Store, Branding & Templates permission as every other page card here (Super Admin or Store Admin), and your store has an active Appointments add-on. Either one missing hides the card — there's no visible "locked" version of it, so a missing card doesn't by itself tell you which condition failed. See Plans, Add-ons & Team Allowances → Which plans include Appointments for how an owner buys or reactivates it.
Opening the direct route without the Appointments add-on
Navigating straight to /online-store/lpe/BOOKING without an active Appointments add-on doesn't open
the editor. A store owner sees Appointments add-on required and View Appointments add-on; the
action opens Settings → Billing & Plan → Add-ons. For the separate staff/vendor guidance on the
Appointments workspace, see Appointments Troubleshooting &
Access.
Why can't I see the booking page editor?
Two independent causes, and they look identical (a missing card): (1) the Appointments add-on is not active — check Which plans include Appointments; or (2) your role lacks the Online Store, Branding & Templates permission — ask a Super Admin or Store Admin to check your role. If you can reach other Online Store → Pages cards but not Booking specifically, check the add-on.
The page-identity switcher
Booking sits in the Buy group of the page switcher alongside Cart and Checkout — open the page-identity button in any page editor's top bar to jump straight to it, the same switcher described in Page-Layout Pickers → The editor's top bar.
Choose a page template
The Design tab's Template section offers three templates:
| Template | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Editorial Calm | Serif, whitespace-led — a quiet, magazine-style booking funnel. |
| Warm Concierge | Warm palette, concierge-style copy — feels like a phone booking. |
| Immersive Reserve | Full-bleed imagery, reservation-app energy for premium bookings. |
There's no Variants section for the Booking page — unlike the product page's four feature-density presets, Booking's per-page template has no separate variant axis. Instead, its variation happens one level down, per step, in Step Format below. Picking a template here seeds every step's starting format — see Step Format: choosing a format per step for the per-template defaults and how to override one step at a time.
Step Format: choosing a format per step
Open the Config tab and select the Step Format group card (its control count matches the number of step rows described below). Each row is one step in the booking funnel:
| Step | Row shown? | Has an on/off switch? |
|---|---|---|
| Offerings | Yes | No — Locked badge |
| Staff / resource picker | Yes | Yes |
| Slot picker | Yes | No — Locked badge |
| Your details | Yes | No — Locked badge |
| Review & confirm | Yes | No — Locked badge |
| Confirmation | Yes | No — Locked badge |
| Deposit / payment | Not shown as a row | — |
Deposit / payment does not get a Step Format row — there's no select or switch for it here — but it still renders one of two real formats on the Reserve your booking screen, decided entirely by which page template you pick above (see What each format looks like to a customer below). Whether a signed-in customer sees the step at all is a separate question, decided by the selected offering's effective deposit policy. Its saved policy wins; when it has never been saved, Default deposit (₹) supplies the effective policy. See Settings & Presets → What decides whether the resource and payment steps exist.
Every row shown has:
-
A format select — a fixed list of formats specific to that step, not the three page-level templates. Each step has its own vocabulary:
Step Format options Offerings Grid · List · Editorial split · Photo rail Staff / resource picker Card grid · Photo cards · Compact list Slot picker Calendar grid · Rail of days · Dense matrix Your details Single column · Two column · Sectioned accordion Review & confirm Summary rail · Stacked summary Confirmation Celebration · Receipt · Editorial thanks Choosing one for a step sets that step's format independently of every other step.
-
A format label next to the select, echoing the chosen format's name.
-
A reset icon (only shown once a step's format differs from the page template's default for that step) — click it to put that one step back to its template default.
Only the Staff / resource picker row also has an on/off switch — every other row is a Locked step: it always appears in the funnel and cannot be turned off from here (it can still be gated by settings, as covered below for the resource step; the other four locked steps are unconditional).
Picking a page template (above) doesn't just relabel the page — it seeds every step's default format at once, and each template seeds a different one:
| Step | Editorial Calm (default) | Warm Concierge | Immersive Reserve |
|---|---|---|---|
| Offerings | Editorial split | Photo rail | Editorial split |
| Staff / resource picker | Card grid | Photo cards | Photo cards |
| Slot picker | Calendar grid | Rail of days | Dense matrix |
| Your details | Single column | Sectioned accordion | Two column |
| Review & confirm | Summary rail | Summary rail | Summary rail |
| Confirmation | Editorial thanks | Celebration | Celebration |
Deposit / payment has no row to set independently (see the table above), but it still renders one of two real formats on the Reserve your booking screen — Inline summary, the single-column layout already documented in Customer Booking Flow → Paying a deposit, for Editorial Calm and Warm Concierge; or Full page for Immersive Reserve, which widens into two columns at desktop widths (heading and subheading on the left, the deposit summary and Pay deposit button on the right) and stacks back to the same single-column shape as Inline summary below that width. The only way to get Full page today is to switch the whole page to the Immersive Reserve template — there is no independent Payment control, so don't expect it on a store using Editorial Calm or Warm Concierge.
Switching page templates after customising individual step formats does not overwrite the steps you already changed — only the ones still at their default follow the newly-picked template. Use Reset all, described next, to intentionally clear customisations.
Reset all
A Reset all button above the step list clears every row's custom format back to the page template's default for that step, in one action.
What each format looks like to a customer
Once you Publish, /book renders whichever format is currently saved for each step — the
public funnel reads the published config, not a draft, so a format change only reaches customers
after a Publish click (Save Draft alone doesn't count). Here's what each option actually changes,
step by step, in the customer-facing terms used in Customer Booking
Flow:
- Service (Offerings row): Editorial split (default on Editorial Calm and Immersive Reserve) and Photo rail (default on Warm Concierge) are the two template defaults; Grid and List are always available as overrides regardless of template.
- Choose (Staff / resource picker row): Card grid (default on Editorial Calm) or Photo cards (default on Warm Concierge and Immersive Reserve), plus Compact list as an override. Only shown at all when the resource step itself is present — see When the Staff / resource picker row is gated off below.
- Time (Slot picker row): Calendar grid (default on Editorial Calm and Warm Concierge) or Dense matrix (default on Immersive Reserve), plus Rail of days as an override.
- Details (Your details row): Single column (default on Editorial Calm), Sectioned accordion (default on Warm Concierge), or Two column (default on Immersive Reserve).
- Reserve your booking (Deposit / payment — no editor row): Inline summary on Editorial Calm and Warm Concierge, or Full page on Immersive Reserve — see the page-template table above; this one is decided purely by which page template you've chosen, since Payment has no format select of its own.
- Confirm (Review & confirm row): Summary rail on every template by default, with Stacked summary as the only override.
- Done (Confirmation row): Editorial thanks (default on Editorial Calm) or Celebration (default on Warm Concierge and Immersive Reserve), plus Receipt as an override.
A stale saved format silently falls back to the template default
If a step's saved format ever stops being a recognised option (for example, after an update removes or renames a format), the public funnel doesn't error or show a blank step — it silently falls back to that step's page-template default instead, with no visible warning to you or the customer. If a step ever looks like it reverted to default on its own, re-open its row here and re-pick the format explicitly.
When the Staff / resource picker row is gated off
If Let customers pick a specific team member is turned off in Settings &
Presets, the Staff / resource
picker row shows dimmed, its format select and switch disabled, and a caption reading "Off in
Appointments settings." with an Open settings link that jumps to /appointments/settings.
This mirrors the customer-facing behavior already documented in Customer Booking Flow → Choose who
or what is
available — settings always
win over this row: turning the switch on here can never bring the resource step back once your
Appointments settings have turned it off. See the next section for what the switch can do when
settings leave the step available.
The row can show as gated for a moment on a fresh load
Right after the editor opens, the resource row briefly shows disabled while your Appointments settings are still loading — this is deliberate: the panel treats "not loaded yet" the same as "turned off" rather than guessing it's on. It resolves to the real state within moments; if it stays disabled, check Let customers pick a specific team member in Settings directly.
When the on/off switch reaches the live funnel
Unlike the page template and every Step Format select, the Staff / resource picker row's on/off switch is read by the public funnel once you publish. Turning it off — while Let customers pick a specific team member is still on in Settings — removes the resource step from the count and the step-by-step labels shown to a customer: a six-step funnel becomes five, and later steps renumber to match, the same Booking steps row described in Customer Booking Flow.
The switch changes the step count, not whether the screen is visited
Turning this switch off does not stop a customer from actually landing on the resource-picker screen. Whether that screen appears at all is still decided the same way it always was — by how many active team members or resources the chosen offering actually has (one or none skips it automatically; two or more shows it) — a decision the funnel makes independently of this switch. If an offering has two or more resources, a customer switching to it will still see the resource-picker screen even with this switch off; the step count and labels around it will simply be one short, so the progress indicator can read something like Step 1 of 5 on a screen that isn't really the first step. Don't use this switch to try to hide the resource step from a customer whose offering has more than one available resource — it only affects the count, not the screen itself. Reaching for Let customers pick a specific team member in Settings is the only control that reliably removes the step, since that gate is read by the same code path that decides whether the screen is shown.
Deposit / payment has no switch of its own (it has no editor row at all, as noted above), and nothing about this section changes that: whether a customer reaches Pay deposit is still decided first by identity: guests continue to Done, while a signed-in customer reaches it when the selected offering's effective deposit policy requires payment. That is the saved policy or, when absent, the store default. See Customer Booking Flow → Paying a deposit and its troubleshooting note.
The editor's own preview is not a reliable check
The canvas preview inside this editor is a live render of the page template — for the Offerings
step only. It's a real rendering, not a placeholder strip: it uses the same underlying template
components the published /book funnel does. Two things still make it unreliable for judging your
work:
- It only ever shows the Offerings step. Whichever row you're editing — Slot picker, Your details, Confirmation, anything else — the canvas keeps showing Offerings, because this editor never tells the preview which step to focus on. There is currently no way to preview any step other than Offerings from inside this editor.
- It renders sample offerings, resources, slots, and details, not your store's real data. The layout shape is accurate; the content inside it (names, prices, images) is not — don't read anything into placeholder copy or a generic thumbnail showing up in the preview.
To actually check a format — including the six steps the canvas can't show at all — publish the
page and look at /book on your own storefront, or use Storefront Mode's share link if you
haven't set a live domain yet.
Why don't customers see my new layout?
Two different questions get asked here, with different answers:
"The editor's own canvas doesn't show my chosen format." Expected for every step except Offerings — see The editor's own preview is not a reliable check above; the canvas only ever renders Offerings, regardless of which row you changed. This is not a sign anything is broken.
"I published, but customers still see the old layout on /book." Work through these in order:
- Did you click Publish, not just Save Draft? The live funnel only reads the published
config — a draft save alone never reaches
/book, however long you wait or however many times you refresh the editor's own canvas. - Hard-refresh the customer-facing page.
/bookcan be sitting on a cached bundle or cached config after a publish; a normal reload may not be enough. - Is it the Deposit / payment step? It has no format select of its own — its format follows whichever page template you've picked (Inline summary on Editorial Calm / Warm Concierge, Full page on Immersive Reserve). Changing an individual step's row never touches Payment; only switching templates does.
- Is the step even present for the customer you're checking with? Locked steps (Offerings, Slot picker, Your details, Review & confirm, Confirmation) always show. The Staff / resource picker only shows when both Let customers pick a specific team member is on and the chosen offering has more than one available resource; Deposit / payment only shows when the customer is signed in and the offering's effective deposit policy calls for one. A guest continues to Done instead. If the step isn't present at all, its format never matters for that booking.
- Did the saved format silently fall back to default? See the callout in What each format looks like to a customer above — an unrecognised saved format reverts to the template default with no visible warning. Re-open the row and re-pick the format to rule this out.
