Legal Pages Editor (Privacy, Terms, Refund, Shipping, Cookie Policy)

Write and maintain your store's Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions, Refund Policy, Shipping Policy, and Cookie Policy, starting from a pre-written draft.

Every legitimate online store needs a clear set of legal pages. BillionBiz gives you five, each starting from a pre-written draft you personalise with your own details.

Screen: Online Store → Pages → Legal Pages.

Note

If your store is on the new admin sidebar, this screen renders differently from the description below — see The new-sidebar layout at the end of this page for what's different.

What you can do

  • Edit five policy documents: Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions, Refund Policy, Shipping Policy, and Cookie Policy.
  • Start from BillionBiz's pre-written draft for each policy, or write your own from scratch.
  • Preview the rendered page before you save.
  • Review and roll back to an earlier saved version from the history panel.

Editing a policy

Pick a document

The left-hand sidebar lists all five policy types. Click one to open it in the editor. You can also jump straight to a document from Online Store → Pages: each policy card there (Privacy, Terms, Refund, Shipping, Cookie) opens Legal Pages with that document already selected — click the card in the classic layout, or its Edit link in the new-sidebar layout.

Write or paste your policy

The main panel is a rich-text editor with a formatting toolbar — bold, italic, headings, and bulleted lists, no HTML knowledge required.

Insert BillionBiz's starter draft (optional)

Use the template dropdown above the editor to insert BillionBiz's pre-written starter draft for the policy you're editing. This is useful both for a first draft and for resetting a policy you've edited if you want to start over.

Preview

Click Preview to see the policy exactly as customers will see it on your storefront, before saving.

Save

Click Save. The "last updated" date shown next to the policy name updates immediately.

Leave or reload with unsaved policy text

The leave guard works in both admin themes at Online Store → Pages → Legal Pages. As soon as a policy's rich text differs from its last loaded or successfully saved version, navigating to another admin page opens Leave without saving?:

  • Select Keep editing to cancel the navigation and keep the unsaved text in the editor.
  • Select Leave page to continue to the destination and discard that unsaved text.
  • Closing or reloading the browser tab uses the browser's own unsaved-changes confirmation.

A successful Save in the classic layout or Save policy in the new-sidebar layout clears the guard for the saved text. A rejected save does not: the editor keeps the changed text and continues to warn before you leave, so correct the error and save again.

Save before choosing another policy tab

The leave prompt guards navigation away from Legal Pages and browser close/reload. The five policy selectors live inside the same page, so changing from one policy to another (for example Privacy to Cookie) does not open that navigation prompt. Save the current policy before selecting another one.

Why am I still asked to leave after selecting Save?

The save request did not complete successfully. Stay on the page with Keep editing, check the error message, and select Save or Save policy again. The warning clears only after the server accepts the policy text.

Tip

Each policy shows when it was last updated, right next to its name in the editor header — a quick way to check whether a page needs a refresh.

Use the Cookie Policy document to tell customers which cookies your store sets and how they can control them. It works exactly like the other four policies.

Open the Cookie Policy

Go to Online Store → Pages, find the Cookie policy card, and click it (classic layout) or its Edit link (new-sidebar layout). Legal Pages opens with the Cookie Policy already selected. Or open Online Store → Pages → Legal Pages and choose Cookie Policy in the sidebar (classic layout) or the Cookie policy pill tab (new-sidebar layout).

Start from the starter draft (optional)

In the classic layout, open the Insert Template dropdown above the editor and pick the Cookie Policy template: it adds a "What Are Cookies" section, a list of essential and analytics cookies, and a "Your Choices" section with [Date] placeholders for you to fill in. In the new-sidebar layout, expand Quick paste templates in the right-hand rail and pick Essential cookies, Analytics cookies, or Your cookie choices to insert that clause into the editor.

Edit, preview and save

Replace the placeholders with the cookies your store really uses, use Preview to check the page, then click Save (classic) or Save policy (new sidebar).

Your Cookie Policy is shown to customers on its own page at /cookie-policy on your storefront.

Add a footer link for the Cookie Policy yourself

Unlike Privacy, Terms, Refund and Shipping, the Cookie Policy is not added to your footer automatically. To link it, add a footer legal link that points to /cookie-policy — see Navigation, Header & Footer.

Customers see a No content available message

The storefront message "No content available for this page." means the Cookie Policy has not been saved yet. Open it in Legal Pages, write or insert your text, and click Save; the storefront page shows it as soon as the save succeeds.

Version history

Click History in the toolbar to open the version panel for the policy you're currently editing. From there you can review earlier saved versions and roll back to one if a recent edit needs to be undone.

Where customers see these pages

Once saved, each policy is automatically linked in your store's footer, so customers can always find it — you don't need to add these links to your navigation yourself. Keeping these pages accurate and current matters both for customer trust and for regulatory compliance in the regions you sell to.

The new-sidebar layout

On the new admin sidebar, Legal Pages opens as five pill tabs — Privacy policy, Terms of service, Refund & returns, Shipping policy, and Cookie policy — with the same rich-text editor in the centre and a Save policy button below it. The right-hand rail adds a few extras not available on the classic layout:

  • Search preview — a live mock of how the policy's title and description would look in a Google search result, marked Preview only · not stored, with Page title and Meta description fields and a character counter (160-character limit) underneath it. The address line in the mock shows your real storefront host (your custom domain if you have one, otherwise your store address) followed by the policy name, for example yourshop.com › privacy. If the host cannot be loaded, the line shows just a slash and the policy name, such as /privacy. The Page title starts as a placeholder such as "Privacy Policy · Your Store" until you type your own.
  • Show this page in storefront navigation — a toggle with a hint describing the current state ("Linked from the footer and checkout." when on, "Hidden — reachable only by direct URL." when off). Like the search preview, it is a session-only control; see the warning below.
  • Last updated — the same "last updated" stamp as the classic layout, shown as a pill in the rail.
  • Quick-paste templates — an expandable accordion of ready-made clauses specific to the policy you're editing (for example, cookie consent and third-party processors for Privacy, or damaged-on-arrival and exchange-only for Refund) that insert straight into the editor.

Preview only: these fields are not stored

The search-preview Page title and Meta description (the card is badged Preview only · not stored) and the storefront-navigation toggle have nowhere to be saved. They are kept only while the page is open and reset when you leave it, and they do not change your storefront or what search engines show. Use the preview to draft wording you can keep elsewhere. Only the policy content itself and its "last updated" date are actually saved.
